Leadership - Part Four

There is a quality inherent in true leaders that makes them stand in a field by themselves. It is a quality that no one can miss regardless of their particular likes or dislikes. Even in this world where polarity seems to weigh so heavily, respect for these kinds of leaders is evident even by their supposed opposition.

This characteristic is virtually indefinable because it is beyond the realm of time and space where definitions mean nothing since definitions by their nature are confining. Yet, if labels are needed this one will have to do:

Magnetism!

These leaders attracts attention simply by BEING who they are. It can be said that, "they are there own person and dance to no one's drummer." As Abraham Maslow, the distinguished American psychologist said in reference to a Self Actualized person, "they are free of good or bad opinions of others." They are free of the praise or criticism of their followers that so often sways the faint hearted among us.

This does not mean they are indifferent to others, just the opposite in fact, they are likely to be highly sensitive to the pulse beat of the world and deeply caring. Its just that they do not allow others to dictate their personal expression of creativity.

This trait will usually make them appear radical yet always inventively creative. We admire them because of this and if viewed positively, we will emulate this quality as a tendency to be self directed, living with integrity in our own skin.

Most definitely, if they represent a subject that interests us such as a 'cause' we will follow them without the need for artificial encouragement or persuasion. You may be thinking of someone like this as you read these words. Abraham Lincoln comes to mind as such a leader, another would be Gandhi.

We all have the seeds of achievement within us to become such a leader, these dormant genes need only the nurturing influence of passionate intention to stimulate growth. To be such a leader is a profound calling we are all asked to answer. As yet, few have answered this call. However, in the radical paradigm shifting time we live in, many more are filling these shoes and taking their first few baby steps.

What a hopeful future this suggests.
